What is AI?
There is so much going on in the world of Artificial Intelligence. Even with popular internet services, including Google, regularly releasing different types of AI, there is still some uncertainty about the final definition of AI.
However, in simple terms, AI refers to machines that can perform human tasks and improve themselves based on the information they receive.
Introduction to AI
Any basic understanding of AI requires human intelligence, creativity, and most importantly, the ability to use technology.
If you’re a complete beginner, we recommend starting with some introductory coding courses online. Learning a coding language like Python may seem tedious, but it will be invaluable for all your future AI projects.
As you progress, you can move into machine learning, data science, and AI. Using a single-board laptop like a Rock is one of the best ways to learn all about coding and AI, at your own pace, with a hands-on approach.
How much should I already know?
You’ll need to know some basic math to understand complicated AI, but don’t worry if you haven’t done math since high school.
At a minimum, you will need to consider:
- Data – can you read, measure and identify different sets of data?
- Modeling – does your idea work?
- The context – how can you use ML to solve your problem?
- Production – can you produce a physical model or does it have to be online?
- Improvements – can you repair your model in the event of a problem?
You can find accessible courses and other learning resources online if you need to brush up on your basic math. As long as you persevere, there is never a time limit for learning to code. It’s easy to fit it into your regular routine.
Why should you start with AI?
Everyone starts their AI journey on a different path. While some people prefer to learn by watching videos, others prefer reading books.
Whatever approach you take, it’s important to ask yourself why you’re starting.
If you want to make money, invent new things or make a real difference, all the reasons are valid. Just decide and keep that in mind so that when the going gets tough, you can remember why you started.
