Kazuhiko ‘Smokey’ Nagata is a legend within the automotive community. Over the years, he got in trouble for numerous traffic violations for reckless behavior, but that didn’t slow him down one bit.
Smokey is best known for founding the Japanese company Top Secret, which over the years has produced successful drift cars that have won numerous events around the world. As well as drifting, they’ve made high-performance cars like the Supra in the video below, which has been shipped to the UK.
The whole point of sending out this 1000bhp monster was for Smokey to try and hit 200mph on the A1(M) which winds its way through the UK. Although highly illegal, he didn’t mind.
He managed to reach 197 mph, but was pulled over by police shortly afterwards and arrested. He was thrown into cells overnight and fined £190, banned from driving in the UK for 28 days and forced to leave the country the next day.
This may seem like an extremely light punishment, but remember that was in 1999 when the law was a bit more relaxed than what we have today.
