Vaydor – An attainable exotic?

If you’ve seen Suicide Squad (2016), you may have seen brief glimpses of the Joker’s custom magenta coupe. This was actually a body kit made for a 2003-2007 Infiniti G35 (Skyline V35), but it was so well done that it was eventually released to the public. Individuals can purchase the Vaydor kit for $15,000, which is relatively affordable for what it has to offer. Don’t want to build it yourself? No problem, but it will leave a dent in your wallet as installation starts at $75,000.

Announced in early 2019, the Vaydor design was sold to Custom Crafted Cars.

humble origins

Hot-rod interior designer Matt McEntegart crafted the Vaydor, giving it everything from scissor doors to a custom roll cage to support the new bodywork. As a result, the car has a 52/48 weight distribution, which is impressive for what is essentially a kit car. Mr. McEntegart was a man of humble origins, stating “I can’t draw, I have no design experience, so I just molded it out of foam.” It should also be noted that the Vaydor bodykit was not the one invested millions of dollars by a big company, which makes the story quite inspiring and worth listening to.

assembly process

The Infiniti is disassembled into the chassis prior to the installation of the custom roll cage. The interior gets a facelift before the exterior body panels are added. Some owners may also want to modify the engine, transmission, suspension and brakes, but this is not a requirement. The whole process is said to take about 2 months from start to finish.

exterior design

In some specs it looks as cool as a Lamborghini. In other cases, it looks like something out of GTA V. No, you don’t have to get the spoiler if you don’t want it. Owners can choose between a coupe and a roadster; each car is tailor-made and everything is achievable at the right price.

under the hood

The Infiniti G35 engine has a 3.5L V6 that produces 280 hp, which is decent but falls short of the Vaydor’s aggressive styling. A Vaydor workshop claims that the Infiniti chassis allows the installation of many alternative engines, including a GM LT4 and a twin-turbo LS3. Please note that these mechanical upgrades are not included in the $15,000 base kit.

a single cabin

The interior is made of leather and suede, which simply makes it a pleasant place to live. As for trim parts, buyers can choose to have them painted, hydro-dipped, or made up of chopped carbon fiber parts. Custom colored LEDs are also offered to add to the ambiance. A range of Alpine equipment is offered, including a 10″ subwoofer, integrated amplifier, front and rear cameras and an Alpine navigation unit. You can get keyless entry and a button star system, which isn’t always the case with a kit car. Amazingly, you can even get blind spot monitors for the rear view mirrors.

Where can I buy one?

At the time of writing, Custom Crafted Cars is only offering the new car rather than the body kit itself. However, previously there were (and probably still are) other licensed installers who are ready to create the bespoke vehicle of your dreams.
