Bad News: 2021 Ford Focus RS canceled

A while back, Ford of Europe CEO Stuart Rowley promised us an RS model of the current Focus. Unfortunately, the manufacturer cannot deliver on this promise at this time. In an official statement, Ford claims that due to EU CO₂ directives, it is not possible to create a proper RS model this time around.

The problem is that the RS should be partially electrified considering the total CO₂ values of the fleet. However, due to the relatively low sales figures, the development of this electric hybrid would require it to be sold at a significantly higher price. And no one would want that.

The last generation Focus RS was very popular with fans and critics. So it’s no surprise that he raised high expectations for a potential successor.

But unfortunately for Ford, there’s now quite a bit of competition in the 400 horsepower segment that the potential Focus RS would enter. Mercedes-AMG’s A45S and Audi’s RS3 are currently the kings of this castle.

The only way the Focus RS will make a serious attempt to topple the current leaders is if it’s priced very competitively. Why would you choose a Focus RS over an A45S or RS3 for the same price?

This decision does not symbolize the end of the RS badge as such, Ford confirmed. But we will certainly miss the Mk.4 Focus RS.

Let’s see some love for the Focus RS in the comments!
