Base stats for both Pokémon.
HP/Attack/Defense/Sp. Attack/Sp. Defense / Speed
Rapidash – 65/100/70/80/80/105
Houndom – 75/90/50/110/80/95
In my opinion, hondoom is better because it has higher Sp. Attack only Rapidash. Additionally, he is immune to Psychc attacks thanks to his “dark” subtype. He also learns the move “Nasty plot” which allows him to greatly increase his special attack, making him a pure special sweeper. After an unpleasant scenario, few pokemon can stand before Houndoom for sure. But the only thing missing is defense, so you should keep an eye on it. He can also learn dark type moves like “Dark Pulse”, allowing him to cover many types and this move can lower enemies’ Sp.Defense to aid his scavenging process.

The stats of both Pokémon are almost identical. They are also very versatile with special and physical moves. However, Houndoom dominates when it comes to movepool. Nasty Plot is an amazing special sweeper when combined with flamethrowers. But he also has a physical option with the elemental fangs (Thunder Fang, Fire Fang). Rapidash was originally just another basic fire type, but now along with Flame Blitz and Poison Jab (via Heart Scale only) it has a few more uses. Still, Houndoom has a much more diverse and much more useful movepool. I don’t usually take sides when it comes to comparing Pokémon, but in this case, Houndoom comes out on top.
I would say Rapidash. It has fewer weaknesses than Houndoom and is much faster. I think he can also learn better moves (like Bounce). I would say Rapidash because it has better overall stats and is more robust than Houndoom, which has poor physical defense. Although Houndoom has more HP and Special Attack, and has a slightly larger movepool than Rapidash, but personally I would go for Rapidash, but that’s just me.

Houndoom is the best choice. Trust me on this lol. I fight competitively in pokemon every day. Rapidash might look really cool and fun to use, but it’s really useless
