The ancient Sumerians essentially wore a rolled skirt, or else a rolled garment that also covered one shoulder. Sumerian women wore something similar, except their garments covered more of their upper bodies. A person’s status was demonstrated by the quality of their clothing and the quantity and quality of their jewelry.
They didn’t need a lot of clothing because they lived in a hot, dry climate. However, the jewels in the royal tombs of Ur are quite spectacular.
