What Does “revel In Your Abandon” Mean?

Was it a saying before being in Tom Petty’s music? Historical examples of its use before music?

This means that some people like to play the victim. They thrive on situations that will bring them sympathy -…like being abandoned

It should be understood in the context of the song:
“Somewhere, somehow, someone must have kicked you
Tell me why you wanna lay there, revel in your surrender
Excited, it don’t make a difference to me baby
Everyone has to fight to be free, you see.
Really, the character the narrator sings with was “stoned” until she (I say she because Petty is male) seems to have lost all hope.
The meaning of the party dictionary is “enjoy and make the most of it”, but I feel like that’s not exactly the case (after all, Petty wrote the lyrics in 15 minutes and I doubt that he used a dictionary). Personally, I think he meant “wallow in your misery”, but obviously that sounds terrible in the song. That’s just my opinion though.

And for the historical thing – I’ve only heard it used in the context of music.

It’s having fun without restriction

in this context, “surrender” means letting go, freeing oneself from constraints. Do something with a carefree attitude without moderation. To revel in his abandonment would be to enjoy it, to revel in it as much as possible.

Abandonment, in this case, refers to his inhibitions. In other words, let go of your restrictions and enjoy (enjoy) being uninhibited. In short, it means “having fun while having fun”.
