RE: Registered on a fraudulent site? How do I stop recurring charges on my debit card?

So another site I use offered free credits if I signed up for the 7 day free trial on videostripe.com. To do this he asked for credit card details but said if canceled within 7 days you would not be charged. So I did that, and as soon as I got my free credits, I canceled my account. However, I came across a site called http://www.scamadviser.com/ and decided to check out Videostripe. In the comments about this, many people say that they were charged $50 even after canceling their account.

So how do I prevent my card from being charged at the end of the 7 day free trial because even though I canceled I don’t trust them not to charge me and I don’t want definitely not paying $50 for something I won’t and can’t afford to use.

Can I call my bank and ask for the charge to be waived? Would canceling my debit card prevent them from being able to charge me? I’ve heard this doesn’t work and can companies find ways around this and charge their new card as well? My debit card expires in a few months anyway so I don’t mind buying a new one, I really don’t want to risk being charged $50 for it. I realize I shouldn’t have signed up in the first place, but now it’s too late for that
