Is it okay to take Benadryl and Dayquil at the same time?

I woke up with flu-like symptoms and took a Dayquil which helped prepare me for the flu-like symptoms, but now I have an allergic reaction to my boyfriend’s cat. I feel miserable and I just want to feel better!!! Is it okay to take them at the same time? Or do I have to wait a few hours?

Answer 1

If you take Benadryl with DayQuil, you essentially produce the equivalent of NyQuil. Benadryl is a first-generation antihistamine with fairly strong sedative properties, and over-the-counter sleeping pills or nighttime cold remedies use it, or another drug in the same class, to induce drowsiness. So yes you can safely take both at the same time but you will probably get very drowsy so if you need to be alert or drive or something this might not be the best choice. You can also try a different antihistamine that doesn’t make you as sleepy. There are many options, such as loratidine (Claritin), cetirizine (Zyrtec), or fexofenadine (Allegra), to name a few.

answer 2

Most all of your over-the-counter sleeping pills contain Benadryl. All of your PM pills contain Benadryl. Not all of your prescription pills have or use Benadryl. Some yes, but many no. I use natural prescription pills that the body makes naturally. Melatonin. If you haven’t tried it, you should. Benadryl is an antihistamine, which means it dries you up. If you start having headaches, your breasts may be too dry. I would not only use Benadryl, but I would also use melatonin. Just switch from one to another so that it does not dry out too much.
