How Long Do I Have To Keep The Bandage On After IV Removal?

I had an IV placed in my hand when I had my colonoscopy/endoscopy. They put on the usual gauze and plaster. Now I wonder how long I should leave it on.

Not long when you’re gone, take it off

It’s nothing more than the little gauze bandage they always put over the IV site, to catch a few of the few drops of blood that might come out of your vein, to keep the drops from staining your clothes. Any “leakage” from the vein will stop within minutes and you can remove the dressing within an hour or whenever you want. When you remove the bandage, if you notice that it is still oozing (it probably won’t), just put a bandage on it.

usually 30 minutes to 4 hours, call the location and ASK

Between 5 minutes and 5 days, as directed by your healthcare professional.

1-2 hours is fine

Until he stops bleeding… I think an hour. If you take it out and it bleeds, put another one (or a bandage) back on.
