As long as it’s not a deep cut, clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and you can apply a thin layer of A&D ointment. My vet has told me to use A&D repeatedly on my dogs and I have never had any issues. Just like some people are allergic to lanolin, some dogs can be too, but if you’ve never had a problem with your dog having skin issues or allergies before, that’s fine. It is not typical to have a lanolin sensitive dog.
How did he cut off his ears? Would the circumstances surrounding his cropped ear require him to go to the vet to receive antibiotics as a precaution?
Handbag balm (or something similar) is actually better. If you can’t do this, just use petroleum jelly to cover the cut. Try some of the dog medicine websites and you will see several pet-specific ointments.
