Calculate The Image Position And Height.?

A 1.0 cm tall object is 60 cm in front of a diverging lens which has a focal length of -30 cm. Calculate the position and height of the image.

Find the position of the image,
1/v = 1/f – 1/u
1/v = 1/(-30) – 1/60
1/v = -1/20
v = -20 cm (the image is virtual)

find the magnification,
M = -v/u = -(-20)/60
M= 1/3 (image is smaller and to the right)
h’/h = 1/3
h’ = 1/3 * 1
h’ = 1/3 cm

1/f = 1/do + 1/di

1/-30 = 1/60 + 1/di, : -.0333 – .01666 = 1/-.04996. d = – 20cm

M = hi / ho = – di / do
M = -20 / 60 = -.333
hi = -.333cm
