Well, what I personally think a paladin is is something I’ve been told and given my own ideas. A paladin is a warrior who wields the blade of justice when the king’s knights fail to uphold it and keep the people safe. So they basically took matters into their own hands. They were elite soldiers and for some reason there would only be around 18 in any given area as being a paladin was a very risky job. You went against the king and you know how it ends. Highly trained in combat and whatever skills each person acquired that could help them in any type of battle, many of them had the ability to cut down large numbers of soldiers, armies if they wanted it too. However, due to their numbers, most, if not all, would be murdered by the king of the region. It was believed that a single group of paladins (18 of them) could defeat more than 100 men, but in massive wars or if the king got really fed up, they would be killed by an army ranging from 200 to 500 men. But the people supported them and funded/armed them. They followed the laws of the Bible, not to kill, to steal, etc. etc. But justice is more of a social thing, what you think justice is. Not to mention vigilant for now, there must be a solid reason for your idea of justice, not a dumb reason for it. They were champions, of the people. That’s all that mattered was royal justice. ALTHOUGH this is just my point of view, a long with other things I’ve already read/heard. Just a group of well-trained soldiers who fought for what they believed was right, and the people secretly supported them.
