What is one way that irony surprises the reader?

Answer 1

dramatic irony occurs when the reader/audience knows more about a character’s situation than the character themselves. the only main effect is that it gives the reader a sense of superiority, or detached superiority. the reader not only apparently discovers what is revealed, but feels superior for it.

answer 2

B. For not meeting expectations
Irony, by its simplest explanation, is when the opposite of what was intended or expected happens. Irony can also be described as a case of someone “shooting themselves in the foot”, so to speak. For example, it would be ironic if someone installed a smoke detector or a fire suppression system in their home to prevent a fire, but because of an electrical short, the smoke detector system smoke/sprinklers ends up setting the house on fire. With this in mind, the irony surprises the reader by falling short of expectations.

answer 3

The answer is “does not meet expectations”. The other options don’t really surprise the reader, and if the plot goes in one direction, and what you expected doesn’t happen, you’re surprised and the element of irony is achieved.
