The 5 most beautiful classic cars from Alfa Romeo

They always say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I’m sure we can all agree that Alfa Romeo has made many of the most attractive cars since its inception in 1910. Here are five classic Alfas that I think , are the most impressive of all time.

5: Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA

Originally based on the boxy but handsome Giulia saloon, the GTA was derived from the Giulia Sprint GT, a coupé designed by Bertone. But the 1.6-liter GTA model, weighing just 740 kg, was over 200 kg lighter than the aforementioned GT. That meant he was pretty good at racing.

In fact, GTA was so good at racing that it won the European Touring Car Championship five times between 1966 and 1971. But that’s not why it’s on this list. This well-proportioned, low-slung Giulia coupe is absolutely amazing, so it deserves a spot.

4: Alfa Romeo Spider

The beautiful and durable Alfa Romeo Spider was produced from 1966 to 1994 in four generations. The name of Alfa’s new convertible was proposed to be ‘Duetto’ after a competition was held, but due to trademark issues it simply remained the Spider.

Pininfarina’s design was inspired by several of its design study concept cars, in particular the Giulietta SS Spider Aerodinamica. The sleek, clean design entered production with the Alfa Romeo Spider and its timeless form has remained alive for nearly three decades.

3: Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2

The TZ was another car based on the Giulia, but it was no ordinary Giulia. It was an attractive, purpose-built race car that weighed just 660 kg and could produce 160 horsepower from a race-ready Twin Cam engine. The hallowed combination of low weight, good power and excellent aerodynamics made it a very competitive endurance racer.

But the Giulia TZ2 was even better, both in styling and racing. A stronger, lighter and more aerodynamic fiberglass body was fitted, giving the TZ2 a better looking rear end and better aerodynamics to aid efficiency. It’s not hard to see why this is one of Alfa’s most iconic design and engineering masterpieces.

2: Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale

The 33 Stradale, a road-going version of Alfa Romeo’s Type 33 racing prototype, is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time. And rightly so, with the low, sloping front end blending into the smooth, flat rear end elegantly. Like many other Alfas at the time, these curves not only looked good, but also made the car more aerodynamically efficient.

It was also one of the first mid-engined sports cars, putting a 2-litre V8 engine behind the driver. This engine can produce up to 270 horsepower, although this may vary as each of the 18 hand-built cars is unique. Right now, the legendary 33 Stradale is worth well over $10 million, and once you see the beauty of this machine, you’ll understand why.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS

The Giulietta Sprint Speciale is certainly the most impressive Alfa Romeo of all time. With a perfectly formed, wind-sculpted body, it was designed to be a streamlined and beautiful car. Weight and drag were kept low, so with 100 horsepower coming from its 1.3-liter engine, the Giulietta SS could reach an impressive top speed of around 200 km/h.

It was even more impressive considering that the Jaguar XK120 reached the same speed with 160 horsepower. But while Alfa Romeo was clearly the master of aero design at the time, they also managed to make one of the most impressive cars of all time.
