In Lazio, when we say “la mezza”, we mean “mezzogiorno e mezzo” (and may “mezzanotte e mezzo”, che io sappia). I have already seen its use with major diversi. Interesting, non si finisce mai di imparare.

In Tuscany, “la mezza” is mezzogiorno. Derived from the Latin medioevale “medium pass away” mezza pass away “come” mezzogiorno”. Le ore 1 (1:00 p.m.) in Tuscan dialect is “il tocco”. fanno 12 rintocchi ed is “mezzodì” or the mezza!!!
