Chem summer job again. This puzzled me. I need to know the name of the two compounds in the title. The section is Ternary Nomenclature: Acids and Salts, if that helps. The only thing I can find out online is that the OI is hypoiodite. Thanks to everyone who responded!
Answer 1
Fe(IO2)3=Iodine(III) Iodine
It is composed of iron(III), Fe3+ and the iodite anion, IO2^-.
Hg2(IO)2=mercury(I)hypoiodide
It is composed of Hg+ and IO-. You can easily figure out that it is Mercury (I) because you know that IO- has a -1 charge and the formula has 2, so that’s a total of -2. You also have 2 Hg, so each Hg must be +1 to cancel the -2 charge of the 2 IO-.
answer 2
Fe Io2 3
answer 3
Declan Christopher Kyla Rose Morgan Genevieve Levi Weston Amelia Skylar
