Is the Salvia they sell at the walmart the same kind…?

I saw Walmart selling sage seeds and wondered if it was the same kind people use to smile and get dirty. Is it the same or something else?

Answer 1

On all seed packets, below the common name, usually in italics, is the Latin or botanical name.

The type of tobacco you are thinking of is Salvia divinorum, a tropical plant that is propagated by cuttings; Authentic seeds sell for $25 each, and even then they have a very low germination rate.

The seeds from Walmart were probably Salvia officianalis (kitchen sage), Salvia splendens (thorny flower stems), or some other such sage.

There are many different plant species in the Salvia family. Sage is part of the large mint plant family.
