It’s kind of a yes/no answer. Alcohol itself is actually a category of nutrients, not a single ingredient. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol says “an alcohol is any organic compound in which a hydroxyl (-OH) group is attached to a carbon atom of an alkyl or substituted alkyl group”. .which is just a complicated way of describing what fits the category.
According to http://www.vicks.com/products/nyquil-cough Nyquil doesn’t specifically say what type of alcohol, just that it’s the first of the inactive ingredients. However, the alcohol in beer comes from the fermentation of grain and the alcohol in wine comes from the fermentation of g ɾąքҽ s… neither of these sources of alcohol would be placed in Nyquil or should be listed as such. Most likely, Nyquil alcohol is simply pure, chemically created alcohol.

Yes, that’s the kind of alcohol that’s in wine or beer. Pharmaceutical grade alcohol is made from fermented corn. There aren’t many in Nyquil, but if you’re taking any medications that say to avoid alcohol while using them, check with the pharmacist for over-the-counter liquid medications like cough syrup . It’s the same as in herbal tinctures and flavoring extracts in your kitchen cupboard.
The other type of alcohol is called denatured alcohol and is intended for topical use only, like isopropyl alcohol. It should never be eaten as it is poisonous.

Well… it’s almost the same thing… The alcohol content of beer is measured by weight and that of wine is measured by volume. So while wine ranges from 9-15% by volume, so does beer from 3/5-6%. In fact, a standard glass of wine, a 12 ounce beer, and a 6 ounce mixed drink are the same amount of alcohol.
