I have an old warm morning gas heater. The pilot has gone out and i am trying to figure out how to light it.?

Can someone help me with this?

Answer 1

On the controller, turn the knob to PILOT. There must be a button or the control button will be pressed. While you hold the button or button down, put a flame on the pilot. It should light up. When this happens, press and hold the button for 60 seconds. Leave it. If it stays on, turn the knob to ON. If it doesn’t stay on, it’s likely, as the member above said, that the thermocouple is faulty.

safety is the concern here when there is a problem they wont turn on you might have to give up and call a service man i had one once it took over 6 seconds I had to hold the red button down for about 15 seconds but that’s like as much as I would recommend, of course you should check that someone hasn’t turned off the line valve

Answer 6

The pilot is attached to a small copper tube. Follow the copper tubing to where it fits into the gas line. Turn off the gas, disconnect the screw that secures the pilot (thermocouple) to the mounting bracket. Loosen the copper line nut. Take it to Home Depot or the hardware store, they’ll line it up with the replacement part. It should cost less than $20.

Answer 7

The pilot supply line copper tube was touching the frame of the heater causing the
malfunctioning thermocouple. I changed it and now it works.

Answer 8

The thermocouple is probably worn. They wear out after years of use. Replace it and the pilot light should come on and stay lit. Pilot generators (thermocouple) cost around $20. Your gas company can take a look and tell you what’s broken and what isn’t, so call them to check.
