Hey. This is for people who play Garry’s Mod online. I tried to play a private game with my friends on Steam. I can play public games just fine, but when I try to join my friend’s game, the server is unavailable. I have already downloaded all the updates from Steam.
Typically, you need to log in through the console if it’s a private game. Ask him to send the IP address and type “connect” in the console. If you don’t know how to access the console, it’s the ~ button. if you press it and it doesn’t work you need to go to options > keyboard > advanced > enable developer console. At this point you should be able to open the console and enter the command. If you still can’t connect after trying through the console, you may need to find it in the games list. To do this, click on “internet” in your list of games and click on the “change filters” button. Enter the name of the map it’s on in the “map” section (make sure it’s spelled correctly) and leave the rest of the options blank. If you try to setup your own server via gmod it won’t work. You can always join an empty server with 2 to 6 people maximum so that people join you.
Make sure he has the same version of the game as you. Also, make sure the map it loads has the same name and is in the correct folder as you. If it has certain mods installed and activated that you don’t have, it could prevent you from logging in. Can’t say I’m a hardcore Gmod player, but I’ve had this problem before.
